Brice National Park.

Well  we  are  back  on  the  road  after  the  short  stop  into  Zion.

When I was telling my work mates about going on a holiday to the USA, Steve said ‘you have to visit Brice Canyon it is beautiful’.  So that night I googled Brice, as you do and looked at the map and on trust shifted all our plans to fit Brice Canyon into the drive trip around the West Coast.

Brice Canyon  was just stunning.  Even the drive in was interesting, there were 2 rock arches to drive through.  If you are ever going to the USA and driving through this part of America, do yourself a favour and spend a day or two in  Brice Canyon.

Brice is a small canyon with what the Indians call Hoodoos.   They are red and orange in colour and with the white snow on them they are breathtaking.

We were there in winter, so snow all over the ground. Remember we are from North Queensland, a cold day for us is 20C.  My dad got out of the car walked to the edge had a look and said ‘Are we done?’.   No was the answer. Brice has an easy track around the top of the canyon, plus a drive to all the sightseeing stops. We drove to all the spots, each had its own unique view.

At one of the lookouts there were some young people who were wearing thongs.  I had to take a photo of them, and do the mother thing, and said “Really kids, you must have some shoes”. They laughed.

There are also walks down into the canyon some were closed but there were people with all the right gear doing some of the walks, but not us.  We were happy to look from the top.

I went back at sunset to see the changing colours as the sun set.  Took too many photos – who am I kidding, you can never take too many photos.

At dinner that night I saw a sign: “Sleigh Rides cancelled because of snow.” Not sure how that works.

I would like to go back to Brice in spring so we could take a walk down into the canyon and they have horse rides this time of year so that would be fun.

Brice is a little bit off the tourist track but well worth the extra day to go and see this part of the USA.

I will be going back again.
